Biography: J.Albert Fernandez, MsEE, MBA
Albert is a C-level Executive, Board Advisor/Director and NED with deep global experience across Technology, Media, IT/Telecoms, Fin-tech, Health-tech and NewSpace. He has worked extensively across Corporate, Start-up/Scale-up and Public Sector and is passionate about emerging technologies in the Cloud, Space, IoT and AI.
An over-arching theme within Albert’s career has been his entrepreneurial and strategic hands-on leadership skills. Albert builds and energizes high-performance teams fostering commitment, collaboration and integrity, and is results-oriented and customer driven with relentless focus on worldwide sales, governance, operational excellence and superior customer experience.
Albert’s educational background includes:
MSc in Electrical Engineering and Telecoms from ETSETB, UPC Barcelona (Spain) and Uni Kaiserslautern (Germany)
Postgraduate degrees in MPCS (Mobile Personal Communications Systems) and GPS (Global Positioning Systems)
Global Executive MBA from the London Business School (UK) and Columbia University (NY- USA)
NED Certification by CPD (UK).
Albert started his career as a Telecoms Engineer, where he designed next generation optical, mobile, video and satellite systems for the European Commission (3G, 4G, 5G).
He served as an Officer at the Satellite and Transmissions Engineering Regiment in Madrid while working for the European Commission on the FRAMES and CABSINET R&D projects.
After building a TDD/FDD demonstrator and getting 3G Mobile Standards approved by the European Commission, he moved to UK with Lucent Technologies to lead their Mobile Communications Business Unit, first from a Systems Engineering, Product and Offer management perspective and later took leadership for Business Development, Operations and Sales. He was selected for the GLDP programme (Global Leadership Development Programme) at Lucent, who sponsored him through his Global Executive MBA at LBS and Columbia University.
After several trials with Tier 1s in Europe his first Commercial UMTS opportunity came with Cingular Wireless (ATT) where he won Lucent’s 1st UMTS contract worth $2B while on and expat assignment in Atlanta (USA). He then re-organized the Sales team to support ongoing business with Cingular before moving back to UK.
While in US he became an Executive Partner & Consultant to the Society of Industry Leaders focusing on investments in the Technology sector, which he continues to enjoy today.
Back in UK he continued to lead Tier 1 vendors and Service providers in the Mobile, Access, Transport and Core Spaces while serving as Executive Director for Tellabs. After significant growth in Europe, Tekelec called his door in need of a complete business turnaround. He worked very closely as Managing Director & EMEA Sales Vice President with Tekelc’s top management team and with Siris Capital, VC Company who had recently bought the business, to deliver a complete transformation from a classic Telco HW based business into a very dynamic SW business pioneering NVF and SDN in the Mobile Network space. The company gained 84% global 4G Diameter signalling market in 12months and was sold to Oracle in 2013, providing 5x ROI to Siris Capital ($1B+).
Once at Oracle he successfully integrated the Tekelec business into Oracle Communications, defined its Go-To-Market Strategy for its E2E Telco Portfolio. He took Leadership responsibility as Group Vice President of the Oracle Communications in EMEA, composed of 14 acquisitions in the SW, CPQ/CRM, OSS/BSS, Activation, Security, Signalling and Data Analytics Space and evolved their solutions into the Cloud.
Following Oracle, Albert set up TechMIV Ltd, an Executive Management & Board Advisory consultancy for Early Stage Innovation, Fast-Growth PE/VC ventures, and blue-chip Corporates, where he delivers on a number of C-Level roles focusing on Innovation, Sales Acceleration, Digital Transformation & Business Turnaround. Within other assignments:
1.- Consulting Executive for Corporate Visions, where he provides Business coaching and Executive workshops to large corporates including Amazon, AWS, DELL, HPE, SAP, BT, Infoblox, ServcieNow, Analog Devices, Benchling, Philips and Salesforce.
2. Advisory Board Member and Executive Partner to CVM and AI for CX Pioneer Flytxt and ESG Satellite Analytics Leader RSMetrics, supporting Strategy, Business development and Growth
3. CEO Information Services of Iceye, a NewSpace start-up where he created a new Geospatial Analytics practice and raised $87M through Series C financing.
4. CEO advisor to Cybersecurity AdaptiveMobile and UC&C SaaS PGi, CTO advisor to Media & Entertainment Hulu, CRO at Supply Chain & Audit SaaS Achilles and a number of other C-Level/Board roles with fast growth VC and PE-backed firms in IT, Telecom, Satcom, IoT, SaaS, Neural Networks and Artificial Intelligence.
Albert has always enjoyed being at the forefront of Technology Innovation, successfully participating and leading projects within UK and International Organizations such as 3GPP, ITF, TMForum, NICE, ESA and NASA. Examples include:

Albert is both British and Spanish national and lives near Malmesbury, at the edge of the Cotswolds in the UK with his wife and two children. He speaks English, Spanish, German and Catalan and in his spare time he enjoys squash, skiing, motorcycling and sailing around the British Isles.
